Conrad Energy offers fixed price electricity contracts for half-hourly metered businesses, allowing them to lock in agreed unit rates for the length of their contract.

This provides greater certainty over energy costs and helps with budgeting, while bills continue to reflect actual energy usage.

Because Conrad Energy generates its own electricity, it supplies customers from its own portfolio of generation sites.

Conrad Energy offers a product called Match+, which matches a business’s electricity usage with an equivalent amount of renewable generation on a half-hourly basis.

This goes further than standard green business energy tariffs, by precisely matching consumption against specific renewables. Conrad’s matched tariff is designed to take advantage of Licence Exempt Supply rules.

Solar is a growing part of Conrad Energy’s portfolio. Its largest site is the 45MW Larport Solar Farm in Herefordshire, a 120 acre site connected to the grid in 2024, which supplies electricity under a corporate PPA. Conrad Energy also has a development pipeline of solar and battery projects totalling over 1GW.

Beyond large solar farms, Conrad Energy funds and installs commercial solar panels at customer premises through its on-site generation service, supplying businesses directly from rooftop and ground-mounted arrays through a solar PPA arrangement rather than an upfront purchase.

Wind forms part of Conrad Energy’s renewable generation mix, and the company has expanded in this area through acquisition, including a 10MW wind farm near Liverpool.

It is a small player compared with the operators of the largest wind farms in the UK, but wind output feeds into the renewable generation that backs its supply contracts.

Conrad Energy operates a growing portfolio of battery storage facilities. Batteries charge when electricity is plentiful and cheap, typically when renewable output is high, and release power back to the grid at times of peak demand.

This helps balance the variability of solar and wind generation and supports a more flexible energy grid.

Conrad Energy is one of the UK’s largest owners and operators of flexible power plants. Unlike large gas power stations, these small gas-fired sites are embedded in local distribution networks and can start up quickly to support the national grid at times when renewable generation cannot meet demand.

They run flexibly rather than continuously, filling gaps rather than providing constant baseload power.

Conrad Energy is developing hydrogen production and storage projects, including a consented electrolyser project in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

The company is also piloting hydrogen as a fuel for flexible power generation, which could allow its gas sites to run on a low carbon energy source in future.

Conrad Energy funds and installs generation equipment, typically solar panels, at or near a customer’s premises at no capital cost, then supplies the business directly from it. Its published case studies include a fully funded rooftop solar array for a leisure centre, integrated with the site’s existing heating and ventilation systems.

Businesses and landowners that generate their own electricity can sell surplus power to Conrad Energy through a power purchase agreement. These can be structured at a fixed price or linked to market rates, and heavy energy users can use long-term corporate PPAs to lock in costs.

For businesses that own generation or storage assets, Conrad Energy’s trading desk can manage and trade those assets on the owner’s behalf, using the same systems it uses to run its own portfolio.

Conrad Energy developed its own software platform, iON+, to operate and trade its generation fleet. The platform is now available to other asset owners, with modules covering operations, dispatch, optimisation and analysis. A customer-facing version, iON+ Connect, gives businesses access to their energy data.
