Octopus Business Energy rates
Unlike most business energy suppliers, Octopus publishes tariff pricing on its website.
However, the rates shown are still dependent on location and meter type, so businesses must enter a postcode to view the available prices.
This means there is no single national rate table. Instead, Octopus generates tariffs based on the supply point and contract type.
There are two main ways to view Octopus Business Energy prices.
Octopus fixed business electricity and gas rates
Businesses can visit the Octopus business tariffs page and enter their postcode. This will display the fixed contract options available for that location.
The page shows the estimated total price for the contract. To see the full breakdown of the standing charge and unit rate, users must select a tariff and continue to the application stage.
Octopus out of contract rates
Octopus also publishes a wider tariff list through its general tariff page.
By entering a postcode at the bottom of the page and selecting business tariffs, users can see the unit rates and standing charges for the available products, including the standard variable tariff.
Unlike many suppliers that charge higher prices for deemed energy contracts, Octopus does not publish separate deemed rates. Instead, businesses placed on a deemed contract are charged the same rates as the standard variable tariff for their meter and location.
As with all business energy tariffs, prices vary depending on the location of the supply, meter type and consumption profile.

Octopus Business Energy tariffs
Here we’ll summarise the business tariff types currently offered by Octopus Business Energy.
Green fixed
Octopus’s most popular small business energy tariffs are fixed contracts between 12 and 24 months. Octopus provides 100% renewable energy on its electricity tariffs as a standard.
Variable tariff
Octopus offers flexible variable tariffs for businesses. As with most business energy suppliers, Octopus’s variable business energy tariffs are significantly more expensive than the fixed tariffs available.
No standing charge
Octopus offers a zero business electricity standing charge fixed tariff, which is perfect for vacant properties with minimal energy consumption. However, this tariff has significantly higher unit business electricity prices per kWh.
Electric match
Electric Match is an innovative tariff offered by Octopus where you can link your business electricity consumption to specific renewable energy generators, either one that you own or Octopus’s own renewables. This is useful for businesses that want to granularly report on their scope 2 carbon emissions.
Shape shifters
Shape Shifters is Octopus’s multi-rate meter tariff, which has a three-hour peak charge window between 4 and 7 pm, an off-peak rate for the night, and a medium rate for the rest of the day. To take advantage of this tariff, it’s necessary to be an Octopus Business Energy customer already and have a smart electricity meter.

Advanced payment
Octopus takes an advanced payment of three months as standard on all their business tariffs, and up to six months when a customer has a low credit score. The advanced payment is held until the end of the contract.
Business energy products
Octopus has a licence as a business gas supplier and business electricity supplier. All Octopus business electricity tariffs are generated from renewable energy sources, and all gas tariffs are carbon offset.
Payment methods
Octopus Business Energy requires an active direct debit on all their tariffs. Customers may choose to top up their accounts with manual BACS payments but must leave their direct debit active.
End of contract
At the end of an Octopus Energy fixed contract, you will be automatically moved onto a variable rate deemed contract, which can be exited at any time. Octopus publishes their variable rate prices here.
Credit checks
Octopus Business Energy completes a credit check as part of its sign-up process and reserves the right to credit-check all directors of limited companies.
