SmartestEnergy Business tariffs

In this section, we summarise the business energy tariffs offered by SmartestEnergy Business.

SmartFix Standard

SmartFix Standard

SmartFix Standard is a fixed-rate electricity or gas tariff designed for businesses that want price certainty. The unit rate is agreed upon at the start of the contract and remains fixed for the full term, helping to protect against wholesale market fluctuations.

Bills are based on actual business energy consumption, but the agreed unit price stays the same throughout the contract, making budgeting and forecasting more predictable.

SmartFix Renewable

SmartFix Renewable

SmartFix Renewable is a fixed-rate green business energy tariff designed for businesses that want to source electricity from green generation while protecting against market volatility.

Businesses can fix electricity prices for between 1 and 5 years, providing longer-term cost certainty. Flexible payment options are available, including budgeted payments or variable Direct Debit, and customers receive annual renewable certification assets to support their environmental reporting and communications.

SmartPay

SmartPay

SmartPay is a prepaid business energy tariff designed to give businesses greater control over energy costs and payments. Prices are fixed in advance, with competitive prepay rates available for terms of up to three years.

There are no credit checks or security deposits required, making it accessible to a wider range of businesses. Energy is paid for upfront, with usage monitored through SmartestEnergy Business’s online portal, and notifications sent by email or SMS when credit is running low.

SmartTracker

SmartTracker

SmartTracker is a price reviewed tariff where electricity or gas prices are fixed for 12 months at a time. Each year, SmartestEnergy reviews the market and issues new prices for the following year.

If a business finds a cheaper price elsewhere at the annual review point, SmartestEnergy Business may offer to match it. Flexible payment options are available, including budgeted payments or variable Direct Debit.

SmartesEnergy Business contract features

Our business energy experts have reviewed the terms and conditions for SmartestEnergy Business to highlight the key contract features businesses should be aware of before entering into an agreement.

Payment methods

Payment methods

SmartestEnergy Business offers several payment options depending on the tariff selected, including Direct Debit, budget plans, and prepayment for SmartPay customers. Invoices are typically issued on a regular billing cycle, with payment terms set out in the contract. Where payments are missed or accounts fall into arrears, SmartestEnergy Business may apply additional charges, revise payment terms, or request advance payments.

End of contract

End of contract

Fixed-term contracts run for the agreed duration stated at the point of sale. Towards the end of the contract, SmartestEnergy Business contacts customers to outline renewal options. If no new agreement is put in place, accounts may move onto out-of-contract or deemed rates, depending on the meter type and account status.

Credit Check

Credit checks

SmartestEnergy business may carry out credit assessments before a contract is agreed and during the life of the contract. Where credit requirements are not met, the supplier may request alternative payment arrangements, advance payments, or move the account onto different pricing until payment risk is resolved. SmartPay tariffs are available without credit checks or security deposits.

Switch business energy

Switching suppliers

Businesses can switch business energy supplier at the end of their fixed term or during an agreed renewal window. SmartestEnergy Business may object to a transfer where there is an outstanding balance or where the switch would breach contract terms. Customers on deemed rates are generally able to switch at any time, provided all charges incurred to date are settled.

Meter access

Meter access and meter readings

Customers are required to allow reasonable access to energy meters for readings, inspections, maintenance, or replacement where necessary. Where actual readings are unavailable, SmartestEnergy Business may issue estimated bills until accurate data is received. Smart meters may be installed where appropriate, unless suitable metering is already in place or the customer objects.

SmartestEnergy Business customer reviews

SmartestEnergy Business holds an Excellent Trustpilot score of 4.2, based on reviews from business customers. The points below summarise common themes raised in business energy-related reviews.

Pros:

  • Many businesses highlight knowledgeable support teams when dealing with account queries, billing questions, and contract management.
  • Reviewers often mention clear communication during contract setup, renewals, and price reviews.
  • Fixed-rate tariffs are frequently referenced as providing reassurance and helping businesses manage energy costs more predictably.

Cons:

  • Some reviews refer to billing queries taking time to resolve, particularly where estimated meter readings are involved.
  • A small number of customers note delays when issues require escalation or further investigation.
  • Some businesses mention that pricing and contract structures can feel less straightforward for smaller organisations or those with lower energy usage.

Alongside electricity and gas supply, SmartestEnergy Business offers a range of additional services aimed primarily at larger or more complex energy users, particularly those with higher consumption or generation assets.
