Business energy tariffs vary based on factors such as your location, the type of  business electricity meter or commercial gas meter you use, and your overall business energy consumption.

United Gas & Power tariffs

United Gas & Power offers a range of commercial electricity and gas tariffs tailored to suit different business needs. These include:

fixed

Fixed-rate tariffs

Designed for businesses that want cost certainty, fixed-rate contracts secure unit rates and business electricity standing charges for the full contract term. This helps protect against wholesale market volatility and makes budgeting easier.

Variable tariff

Variable tariff

Variable tariffs apply when a fixed contract expires without renewal. Prices can rise or fall with the market, and businesses are typically free to leave with 30 days notice. Any changes to rates are communicated in advance.

Deemed

Deemed rates

If a business moves into a site supplied by United Gas & Power without signing a business energy contract, deemed rates will apply. These are often significantly higher, so switching to a tailored plan is strongly recommended.

Renewable For Business

Renewable electricity tariffs

United Gas & Power offers an optional 100% renewable electricity product, supported by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGOs). Businesses choosing this option can demonstrate environmental responsibility.

United Gas & Power contract features

We’ve reviewed United Gas & Power’s terms and conditions and outlined the key features relevant to business customers below:

Payment methods

Payment methods

United Gas & Power expects most customers to pay by Direct Debit. Other methods, such as BACS or card payments, may be accepted, but customers must include the correct account reference or invoice number to ensure payments are processed without delay. Customers on fixed contracts are typically required to keep a Direct Debit in place for the duration of the agreement.

End of contract

End of contract

For non-micro businesses, United Gas & Power issues a Statement of Renewal Terms at least 60 days before the contract ends. If no new agreement is arranged, customers are moved to the standard-variable tariff. Micro businesses are not required to give notice to terminate and can switch suppliers freely once their contract ends.

Credit Check

Credit checks

United Gas & Power may carry out credit checks before or during the contract term. If credit status is insufficient or payment issues arise, they may request a security deposit or advance payment. These steps are more likely for new businesses or higher-risk customers.

Hidden Fees

Termination and early exit fees

If a business leaves its fixed contract early or breaches terms, United Gas & Power may apply a termination fee based on forecasted usage for the remainder of the contract. This does not apply to deemed or out-of-contract micro business sites.

Meter access

Meter access

Customers must provide safe access to meters. United Gas & Power can charge for missed appointments, estimated reads, or interference with equipment. Smart meters may be read remotely, and customers can object to more frequent data collection if they wish.

United Gas & Power customer reviews

United Gas & Power holds an impressive Trustpilot rating of 4.9, reflecting consistently positive feedback from its business energy customers. Here’s a summary of what verified users say about their experience with United Gas & Power:

Pros

  • Customer service: Reviews frequently highlight United Gas & Power’s knowledgeable and friendly support team, with many customers praising the speed and clarity of communication.
  • Account management: Businesses appreciate having a dedicated account manager, making it easy to resolve queries and manage their business electricity bills.
  • Billing accuracy: United Gas & Power is often noted for its clear invoicing and accurate meter readings, helping businesses track energy costs more effectively.

Cons

  • Smart meter rollout: A small number of users have reported occasional delays with smart meter installations and onboarding.
  • Limited multi-utility offering: Unlike some suppliers, United Gas & Power focuses solely on gas and electricity, so businesses seeking bundled services may need to manage water or telecoms separately.

Together for Trees initiative

United Gas & Power runs a tree-planting initiative called Together for Trees, which was created in partnership with the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.

This campaign supports reforestation efforts in the UK and allows business customers to contribute to environmental restoration simply by choosing UGP as their energy supplier.

Here is a summary of the key features of the Together for Trees initiative:

Tree planting

Tree planting for every new customer

For each new business contract signed, UGP funds the planting of a native broadleaf tree in the Yorkshire Dales. This helps restore woodland habitats and contributes to long-term carbon capture.

UK-based environmental impact

Unlike offsetting schemes that support projects abroad, this initiative delivers visible, local benefits by improving British biodiversity and supporting natural carbon storage.

Sustainability credentials

Supports wider sustainability goals

While renewable electricity is offered as an optional product, the Together for Trees campaign gives businesses a simple way to take positive environmental action alongside other green business energy choices.
